MARKET WEEK AHEAD — MAY 25-29, 2026

· Trade Forge

A new trading week starts before Monday's open. That's not a cliché. It's how serious preparation actually works.

Here's how we approach it — and what you should be thinking about too.

---

How We Prepare for a New Week

Every Sunday, our team runs a structured recalibration sequence before markets open.

Recalibration checks come first. We review how our models performed last week. Did signal accuracy hold across all asset classes? Did drawdown stay within expected ranges? If not, we investigate why.

Pair filter updates follow. Not every currency pair, commodity, or index deserves equal attention every week. We score assets on recent liquidity, spread behaviour, and momentum conditions. Low-scoring pairs get deprioritised. This keeps signal quality high.

Recovery tier review is next. If any tracked assets had an unusually volatile week, we reassess their position in our signal hierarchy. Some assets need a cooling-off period before our models treat them normally again.

Finally, we run an economic calendar scan. We flag every scheduled high-impact event for the coming five days. This isn't about predicting what happens. It's about knowing when the market could behave differently to our models' baseline assumptions.

You can replicate this framework. Even manual traders benefit from a structured Sunday routine rather than reacting to Monday cold.

What Moves Markets on Monday

Monday open carries unique risk. You need to respect it.

Gap risk is the biggest factor. Markets close on Friday and reopen Sunday evening (forex) or Monday morning (equities, indices). News doesn't stop over the weekend. By the time prices quote again, they may have moved significantly from Friday's close.

We check overnight news flows before our models produce any Monday signals. If there's been a major geopolitical event or unexpected central bank statement, we adjust accordingly.

Session overlap timing matters too. The London–New York overlap (roughly 13:00–17:00 UTC) is where the highest forex liquidity typically sits. Monday's overlap can be thinner than mid-week. Lower liquidity means wider spreads and faster, less predictable moves.

Liquidity patterns normalise through the week. Tuesday through Thursday tends to produce the cleanest signal environments. Monday and Friday carry elevated noise. Our models weight this structurally. You should factor it into your manual entries too.

Economic Calendar Awareness

Scheduled events don't just create volatility. They concentrate it into specific windows.

Rate decisions, inflation prints (CPI), and employment data (NFP) are the highest-impact categories. When one of these falls in a trading week, our models enter a pre-event caution window roughly two to four hours before the release.

We're not predicting direction. Nobody can do that reliably. What we can do is recognise that spreads widen, liquidity thins, and price action becomes less model-friendly near major releases.

For you, the practical lesson is simple. Know your calendar. If a major event lands on Wednesday, your Tuesday positions may need tighter risk management. Your Wednesday entries should wait for the post-event price to settle — usually 15 to 30 minutes after the release.

We use the calendar as a risk filter, not a prediction tool. That distinction matters.

Adjusting Risk for Volatility

Not all weeks carry the same risk profile. Our models account for this dynamically.

When implied volatility metrics are elevated — measured across currency pairs, equity indices, or commodities — we reduce standard position sizing. Typically, a 20–30% reduction per signal prevents outsized drawdown during unpredictable periods.

The underlying logic is straightforward. Higher volatility means wider stop distances are needed to avoid premature exit. Wider stops with unchanged position sizes mean larger potential losses. So sizing must come down to keep risk consistent.

For manual traders, the same principle applies. Volatility expands risk exposure even when you hold your lot size constant. If you don't adjust, the market adjusts for you — usually at the worst moment.

We track volatility across all asset classes before generating weekly signals. It's one of the last checks before deployment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do your signals change based on the day of the week?

Yes. Our models apply day-of-week weighting. Monday and Friday signals carry additional filters due to liquidity patterns.

Q: How far in advance do you scan the economic calendar?

We scan seven days forward every Sunday. High-impact events within 48 hours trigger automatic caution flags in our system.

Q: Should I avoid trading around major news events entirely?

That depends on your strategy and risk tolerance. We never avoid markets entirely — but we adjust sizing and timing around high-impact windows. Education, not advice.
